Women's basketball news, updated once in a while. Our WNBA section is updated daily and has a decent amount of stuff. This page will expand in the near future. This is sort of a splash page, not a real section. Here is some basic womens basketball info:

NWBL Basketball News / June 16, 2004

The National Women's Basketball League, or NWBL, is apparently in its fifth season. It's an American pro women's basketball league that goes on during the normal basketball season. So, WNBA players who don't feel like playing overseas all year can play in the NWBL and it won't conflict with their WNBA schedule. Anyway, we don't know who markets the NWBL, but we didn't even know they existed until about a month ago. Great job, PR people! Anyway, the 2004 NWBL season went from January - April, 2004. The 2004 NWBL champions are the Dallas Fury, who beat the Colorado Chill. The Fury star is Sheryl Swoopes, who has now won three straight NWBL championships. SHe also plays with the Houston Comets of the WNBA and has won four championships with them. That makes Swoopes the current most succesful women's basketball player in North America (and maybe the world). Dallas also had Cheryl Ford and Anna DeForge, who won the 2004 NWBL Playoffs MVP award. Colorado had Becky Hammon, Ruth Riley and Edna Campbell.

NWBL News: New NWBL team in Lubbock, Texas for 2005 season: The NWBL’s LUBBOCK HAWKS, will be owned and operated by Ricky Romero and Julie Bowie, who are also the proud new owners of a beautiful 28,000 square foot sports center in Lubbock. The Lubbock Sports Center, which is a 28,000 square feet practice facility, is composed of one full basketball court, three volleyball courts (convertible to basketball courts), restrooms and sports offices. The sports center will be open to the public, who may purchase a membership, to practice/play at the new facility. It will also be the home court practice facility for the nationally renowned girls team the Lady Hawks and the brand new pro women’s sports, the HAWKS.

Aside from the new Lubbock Hawks, the current NWBL teams are the Houston Stealth, Dallas Fury, Springfield Spirit, Chicago Blaze, Birmingham Power and Colorado Chill.

Women's Basketball History / June 3, 2004

InsideHoops.com will someday write an article or two about the history of women's basketball. Until then, here's some random info about past women's basketball leagues: The ABL ( American Basketball League) was 1996-1998. The WBA ( Womens Basketball Association ) was 1993-1997. The WBL ( Womens Basketball League ) was 1978-1981.

More coming over time. This may not be a complete section, but we'll try to add more info and also some useful women's hoops links.
